The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is offering an alternative to passengers suffering because of increased taxi fares to the newly-commissioned international airport at Devanahalli.
With the slogan: “moving you economically”, the corporation claims its Vayu Vajra, Suvarna and Parisaravahini bus services offer a blend of luxury, safety and economy. The Vayu Vajra is an airconditioned luxury bus, which offers flat rates of between RS 80 ($1.8) and Rs 200 ($4.6), while the non-AC buses, Suvarna and Parisara Vahini, offer flat rates of Rs 100 ($2.3), 80 ($1.8)and 50 ($1.6). This compares with a cab fare of close to Rs 750 ($17.5).
For the first or last leg of the journey, the Home Connect Taxi Service Interface takes passengers to or from the nearest BIAL bus service boarding point. Currently, these services are being operated by Cell Cabs and SGL. Passengers using the cabs receive a 25 per cent discount on bus tickets.
One international passenger who used the service was all praise for BMTC. He said that the cab drivers personally transferred luggage to the buses, and that the buses provided the option of request bus stops for the benefit of passengers.
