Indian scientist designs Smart Passenger Aircraft

Berhampur (Orissa): Adding another success story to the Indian aviation history, a famous aerospace scientist has come up with the idea behind manufacturing a Smart Passenger Aircraft for reducing costs significantly.
"The proposed aircraft would accommodate 50 to 70 passengers, would be light weight, fuel efficient and would land in shorter runway without much infrastructure facilities of an airport," scientist and former vice chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Mr. Harinarayanan said.
At present, the country has about 450 small airstrips, of which only 66 airports are functional and rest of them are still unutilized.
Though the concept of small carriers is not new in other developed nations, Harinarayanan feels that the proposed aircraft would be a huge success owing to its low cost and fuel efficiency.
It is expected that the aircraft would cut down the fuel costs by 25 per cent (approximately) as compared to other similar aircrafts.
