No wage cut, Praful Patel assures A-I employees

New Delhi: Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Tuesday denied reports that Air India was mulling a wage cut for employees in keeping with PM Manmohan Singh’s austerity call.
While agreeing the aviation industry was going through turbulent times, Patel categorically denied agency reports that said India’s biggest airline could affect a 25 per cent wage and other incentives cut.
“These are extraordinary situations and the aviation industry is in deep financial crisis especially due to high cost of fuel. We understand it's a global phenomena but if there's slowdown in aviation, it will have an impact on Indian economy and on the ability of the average people who have start flying now. So it's a matter of great concern. Because there's no financial support we give to the industry - including Air India - time has come to see how best we can come out of it,” he said.
Patel also dismissed reports of an incentive cut as rumour.
