Mumbai: IndiGo Airlines co-pilot Arjun Menon’s lawyer on Thursday told the metropolitan magistrate in Bandra that his client was just a “good friend” of Sucheta Anand, the airhostess who committed suicide in a suburban hotel on June 7.
Menon, who was the last person to have met Sucheta, was arrested by Santa Cruz police on the charge of abetment of suicide.
Denying that Menon and Sucheta had a love affair, lawyer Amarendra Pargaonkar said, “They were just close friends and there was no other relation between them.”
The prosecution maintained that the investigations in the case were still on and they needed Menon’s police custody for more time. They stated that they had to question several other people in the case.
Besides, the examination of the calls and SMSes in still in the process.
The police had earlier speculated it was Sucheta’s failed marriage with a Delhi-based businessman that led to her to commit suicide. However, Menon’s arrest twisted the story. The police had then said that it was an argument with Menon about “marriage”-related issues that drove Sucheta to end her life.
