Plane makes emergency landing after hydraulic snag

Mumbai: Flight operations at the Mumbai airport were suspended for more than half-an-hour as an Air India flight made an emergency landing on Friday afternoon.
The Mumbai-bound flight, IC 148 from Jamnagar, developed hydraulic problems around 1.45 pm and was forced to make an emergency landing to avoid further complications. The plane carrying 138 passengers managed to make a safe landing and was later towed to the hangar.
As a ripple effect, flights scheduled to arrive in the afternoon were delayed by around 40 minutes due to congestion. "The aircraft was on the runway for more than 40 minutes, delaying other flights and bringing operations on the runway to a standstill," said an airport source. As the secondary runway was shut due to wind conditions on Friday, the main runway had to bear the entire load."The plane was on the main runway for at least 10 minutes before it was towed away," said an Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL) spokesperson. "There was some oil spillage, too, which must have taken another 10 minutes to be cleared."
Air India, however, said it was a precautionary landing.
