Runway hole repair delayed

Kolkata: Fading light on Tuesday afternoon coupled with poor visibility on one side of the secondary runway and high wind speed on the other delayed the repair of a hole on the main runway of NSC Bose Airport from Tuesday afternoon to noon today. The hole, however, was temporarily filled in shortly after it was discovered.
The pilot of Air Decan's flight from Jamshedpur to Kolkata noticed a hole near the centre line of the main runway close to Charlie Taxi Bay on Tuesday afternoon. He informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) officials of the existence of the hole. The ATC officials informed their counter parts of Airports Authority of India (International Airports Division), who are in-charge of runway maintenance. The AAI officials temporarily filled in the hole because they needed time to repair it for which the main runway would have to be closed to air traffic. In the evening the secondary runway could not be used since it does not have night landing facility. They had to wait for the following morning.
Yesterday a AAI officer spoke to ATC officials to use the secondary runway because the main runway would have to be closed for repairing the hole.
