Airlines plan to hike fares seventh time this year

Domestic airlines are planning to hike fares for the seventh time this year as rise in jet fuel prices has made it impossible for airlines to stay afloat reports Economic Times.
Country`s largest private airline Jet Airways and low cost airlines are planning hike of 20% in their fare. The fare hikes are expected ahead of peak travel season in September-October.
The Indian airlines are likely to lose a combined USD 1.5 billion this fiscal because of the high prices in of jet fuel. Airlines have hiked fares six times during this year but still are expected to post losses during this year. ATF prices have increased to Rs 71,000 a kilo liter from Rs 21,000 per kilo litre in 2004.
