K'taka govt may reopen HAL

The government of Karnataka is hoping Narayan Murthy will be able to influence the center into reopening the old airport in Bangalore. The CM has personally requested him to take up the position of Chairman of Bengaluru International Airport, a position he had resigned in 2005.
Three years ago, Narayan Murthy resigned from the post of Chairman of the Bengaluru International Airport after former prime minister HD Deve Gowda made a statement in the press questioning his contribution to the project. Now the state government wants him to take up the post again, sources tell us the CM, Yedurriappa has personally requested him to reconsider.
Sources tell us Narayan Murthy has not made up his mind about the offer. The state government has expressed its desire to reopen the HAL - that's the old airport in Bangalore, but this is a decision that needs to be taken by the civil aviation ministry and MOCA minister Praful Patel is not keen to do so.
The state government is hoping Murthy will be able to influence the prime minister into reopening HAL.
