Airline serves ketchup pouch with fungus

Jaipur: It came as a rude shock for a passenger of Jaipur-bound Indian Airlines flight last week, when he was served a tomato ketchup pouch with fungus.
Dr S Chakravarty, a resident of Jaipur and laparoscopic surgeon, had boarded a flight from Mumbai on September 1, 2008. After half an hour, he ordered snacks. "I was served a tray of snacks along with a tomato ketchup pouch. I noticed that the ketchup pouch (NOGA brand) had fungus over it, which could have caused a serious health problem, including death, if consumed," said Chakravarty.
"I brought the matter to the notice of the cabin crew, who readily accepted the mistake and provided me the feedback form to register a complaint," he said.
This incident has raised a question on the quality control measures taken by the airlines before they serve foodstuffs to the passengers on board.
He has also lodged a formal complaint with the Airports Authority of India, Jaipur, asking them to take corrective steps to ensure hygienic food supply for passengers travelling in the different airlines.
The airline food and beverage manager has admitted the mistake and assured to initiate action against the supplier.
