NRI caught stealing wallet at city airport

Mumbai: A 40-year-old NRI businessman from New York has landed in the police net for stealing a co-passenger's wallet at the city airport. A CCTV camera positioned close to one of the duty-free shops inside the airport sealed the fate of the accused, officials said.
"The accused, Rahul Bhatia, who had come to India to attend a wedding in Delhi, had stolen Varsha Mehta's wallet, after she left it behind while shopping at a duty-free shop near the airport arrival gate on August 24,'' an investigator said.
After Mehta lodged a complaint with the local police, officials checked the CCTV footage which helped in tracking down the accused in Delhi.
"Once the identity of the accused was established , his name was put out on the look-out list. Bhatia was finally intercepted at the Delhi airport and sent to Mumbai . He was produced in the magistrate's court on Monday and released on bail,'' the investigator added.
The CCTV footage showed how Bhatia manoeuvred to steal the wallet, trying to make sure that no one around noticed him while carrying out the act, official said.
