Hyderabad: As part of its restructuring plans after the merger with Indian Airlines, Air India is now putting forth several of its strategic business units (SBUs) up for partnerships.The national carrier is keen on alliances in order to strengthen and take the SBUs to the next level.Air India’s chairman and managing director Raghu Menon said there has been “excellent response from various potential partners for joining hands in Air India’s SBUs.”
Air India, as part of a restructuring, has carved out several SBUs for cargo, ground handling services, MRO and training. The airline is eyeing the India Aviation event to be held in Hyderabad from October 15 for forging alliances with global players for the SBUs.
According to Menon, there have been more number of enquiries for partnership in engineering and MRO activities compared with other SBUs.
Air India has also been working on inducting A 319s into the fleet. While it had ordered for 111 aircraft, 38 have already been delivered.
The 39th aircraft would be handed over to Air India during the India Aviation programme in Hyderabad. It would add another eight aircraft to the fleet by the of the financial year.
