New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority is all set to approve a change in the land use norms in Sector 36 of Rohini to make way for India’s first fully-automated heliport. The DDA meeting is scheduled to be held on October 17 at Raj Niwas.
According to documents in possession of Newsline, “The CMD of Pawan Hans Helicopters has been requesting for allotment of a suitable site for a heliport at the earliest in view of the Commonwealth Games 2010. Accordingly, land measuring 25 acres has been identified in Sector 36, Rohini.” Sources within the DDA said the Delhi government had sanctioned Rs 1 crore for the project, entailing one helipad each in all nine districts of the Capital. The heliport at Rohini will be the major point for all chopper travel during the Games.
The DDA will change the land use for the 25 acres in Rohini from recreational (district park) to transportation. DDA’s technical committee has already approved the proposal. DDA officials said Pawan Hans Helicopters had sought permission for building a “temporary helipad” on the banks of the Yamuna. “They wanted to build this temporary structure, made out of steel and glass, near the DND flyover near the Yamuna bed. The proposal states that the structure will be rapidly dismantled soon after the Games. The technical committee will examine the proposal in detail,” a senior DDA official told Newsline.
