Kolkata: The city airport witnessed high drama on Ashtami morning with yet another passenger losing his handbag containing a cellphone at the security hold. But this time, CISF officials had the last laugh.
Coordinating with their counterparts at other airports, CISF managed to track the family that had lifted the bag. The victim, a Mumbai-based multinational company employee from Hooghly, later recovered his missing items at the Mumbai airport.
Sheikh Jaiur Rahman was booked on a JetLite flight to Mumbai on Tuesday morning. On reaching the security hold of the airport, he gave his hand baggage at the X-ray machine. By the time he was frisked and reached the other end, his baggage was nowhere to be found.
He immediately informed CISF officials. For the next half an hour, they went through the footage of the security hold and found a woman picking it up from the X-ray machine. She was accompanied by a man, presumably her husband, and a small child.
At that time, passengers of two other flights were at the security hold — the JetLite flight to Port Blair and the Kingfisher flight to Bangalore. CISF officials sent three e-mails with the photographs to their counterparts at these three airports.
After three hours, CISF officials from Mumbai airport confirmed that the duo had been detained there and the baggage recovered. Rahman rushed to Mumbai by the Jet Airways afternoon flight and picked it up.
The family claimed they had picked up the baggage by mistake as they were also carrying a similar laptop bag. While the husband, a well-known cardiologist from the city, picked his own, his wife took the other one. They realized the mistake only after they got off at the Mumbai airport. They were later released after an amicable settlement with Sheikh.
