Flight carries only scripture from London to Delhi

New Delhi: It was a routine Air India flight from London to New Delhi but the 330-seater aircraft carried just 500 copies of Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib and 32 'sevadars'.
The copies of the holy book were brought with due respect, placed on 300 seats while the 'sevadars' occupied the remaining seats.
The flight AI-112 arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 2:30 am. The plane was taken to a special bay to offload the books carefully, keeping the religious sentiments in mind.
Special arrangements were also made by the Customs and Immigration Departments for necessary checks. The checkings were conducted in the aircraft itself, the official said.
The management of the Gurudwara Mai Pago in central Delhi's Karol Bagh brought these copies here after spending about 80,000 British pounds (around Rs 64 lakh) by booking all seats of the Air India flight.
