Canada deports paralyzed Sikh

Ottawa: Canadian authorities deported a paralyzed Sikh with alleged separatist links overnight to India despite protests from hundreds in the local community, a border official told AFP Tuesday.
"He was deported back to India last night," Faith St. John said. "There were no incidents."
Laibar Singh, 48, had been living at a temple in a suburb of Vancouver, Canada's westernmost metropolis, since his Canadian refugee claim was denied in December 2007.
Two previous attempts to take him into custody were blocked by hundreds of protestors at the temple and at the Vancouver airport.
Singh came to Canada in 2003 on a forged passport, and suffered a massive stroke three years later that left him quadriplegic and unable to care for himself.
He had since argued that he would die if he was deported to India because he would be unable to get proper medical care.
