Srinagar: The first Hajj flight that was scheduled to arrive here on Saturday was cancelled in Jeddah due to "unknown reasons," and will arrive on Sunday, officials here said.
State Hajj officer Abdul Rashid Mir said that the flight was cancelled "due to unknown reason" in Jeddah and will arrive in Srinagar on Sunday. “The first flight carrying 164 Hajj pilgrims will arrive on Sunday,’ he said, adding the schedule for tomorrow’s flight will also be disclosed on same day.
Mir said that as many as 164 Hajj pilgrims were slated to return home in the first flight from the total 7926 pilgrims from Jammu Kashmir.
“We do not know the reasons why the flight was cancelled on Saturday. We only know that no ‘Air India’ flight could take off from Jeddah,” Mir said. He added that the Hajjis who had to return have been provided with accommodation in Jeddah hotels.
However, the relatives of the Hajjis who could not return said that the Hajjis are stranded at the Jeddah airport without food and accommodation since past 24 hours.
