Mumbai: The country’s second biggest carrier Kingfisher Airlines, and IndiGo on Saturday reduced fuel surcharge by Rs 400 per ticket. Kingfisher Red, the no-frills subsidiary of Kingfisher, has brought down the fuel surcharge by upto Rs 300 a ticket.
These moves, which followed dip in jet fuel prices, will reduce the airfare by the same amount. Earlier, Jet Airways, JetLite and Air India took similar decision. ET had reported in its edition on November 7 that Kingfisher would cut fuel surcharge in December.
The cut in fuel surcharge was uniform for Kingfisher and IndoGo. Kingfisher Red, however, reduced it in two slabs— the decline was Rs 300 a ticket for routes up to 750 kilometres. Flights over 750 km would see a drop of Rs 200 a ticket.
IndiGo operates 125 flights across 17 destinations with a fleet of 19 brand new Airbus A-320 aircraft. Kingfisher Airlines connects 70 cities in India with 442 flights a day.
The reduction in fuel surcharge is expected to stimulate domestic air travel market which has seen sluggish demand in recent months, in the peak winter season, said an analyst.
