No talking in air, Govt gets serious about flying safety

New Delhi: A month after 26/11, India is still on high alert. The Civil Aviation Ministry has asked state governments to heighten security not just at airports but at unused air strips, especially in remote areas and those lying abandoned.
Choppers flying unchallenged into highly protected zones is one of the security loopholes the Government is looking to plug.
While Raj Path in New Delhi, designated a landing strip during the World War II has been put to good use, there are hundreds of other landing strips across the country which are a cause for concern.
Not just airports, with elections around, standard operating procedures have been put in place for landing choppers carrying VIPs as well.
If a helicopter has to land at an unscheduled place, the pilot will have to now inform the local police, provide an advanced flight plan as well as the passenger details.
An attempt has also been made to secure airports better and it means additional frisking and sniffer dogs.
