Not enough security at Kolkata airport: passengers

Kolkata: Despite warnings by Defence minister A K Antony of air attacks and Friday morning’s gunshot scare at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport, passengers in Kolkata claim that there has been no increase in security arrangements at the Dum Dum airport.
Neeraj Basotia, who recently returned to the city from Delhi, said in spite of travelling in the domestic sector, he was asked to report nearly three hours prior to the plane departure. “One can notice increased security at the Delhi airport. It has become a fortress with security personnel all around,” he said. In comparison, although the Kolkata airport has also been placed on a high alert with security beefed up at the entry and exit points, passengers claim the situation has not changed.
Several visitors are still found standing in front of the various gates and their vehicles are allowed to come up to the airport gates. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) guards posted at various checkpoints merely check the passengers’ tickets.
This is in sharp contrast to the airports at Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai, where no car is allowed to come up to the airport gates and visitors are not allowed inside the airport.
