Soon after the Happy New 'Air' came, the major oil companies reduced the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) further late on Wednesday.
The development is coming soon after oil majors Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum announec the cut in the ATF prices by 6.8% which comes to around Rs30-31000 now depending on the cities like Delhi, Mumbai et al.
Air-India and Jet Airways had brought down the prices of air fares in busy sectors to as low as 81% and 40% per cent.
But both the government-owned national carrier and the biggest private airlines Jet announced the fare cut after Kingfisher Airlines have claimed that they will bring down the prices from January 1, 2009. Surprisingly that announcement never came from the Bangalore-based airline who have already brought down the number of flights as well. Moreover, its chairman Vijay Mallya had upped the ante only recently that his airlines will make profit soon.
