Passengers go awry over missing baggage

Mangalore: It was chaos at the Bajpe airport when the IX 382 Air India Express from Dubai arrived at Bajpe airport at 8.45 pm on Thursday January 1, 2009. Many of the direct passengers from Dubai to Mangalore found their baggage missing. When they complained the airline authorities, they told that there was some technical snag in retrieving their baggage.
But only later they came to know that their baggage has been loaded onto an aircraft going from Dubai to Kochi and about 80 bags belonging to the passengers to Mangalore have been missing.
Concerned about the safety of their baggage the passengers enquired at the airline counter who first feigned innocence about the baggage, but when the passengers gave their piece of mind to the crew, they agreed that there has been a case of untraceable baggage. About 45 passengers had reported missing baggage.
The authorities only after some acrimonious argument with the passengers agreed to trace their baggage and on confirmation with the Dubai office that they came to know that the missing baggage were loaded onto the Kochi bound flight.
The passengers were later made to stand in a line and give the details of their baggage address and other particulars and were told that their baggage will arrive in Bajpe airport on Friday though they did not specify the time of arrival.
Some of the passengers who reported missing baggage had come to Mangalore on social engagements like wedding and family gathering during the new year but all of them went home empty handed and some of them were left with what they were wearing.
