DIAL to provide help to physically challenged, minors

New Delhi: Passengers with special needs, including physically challenged and unaccompanied minors, flying from the Indira Gandhi International Airport here will be getting assistance by the airport operator in boarding the plane.
Airport operator, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), has started the' Contact Zone's facility at Gate 1 of the IGI's International terminal (T-2).
Under this, DIAL's customer service executives and porters have been deputed for coordination and facilitation at' Contact Zone's. They will assist the physically challenged passengers with wheelchairs and unaccompanied minors in their entry to the terminal building and check-in.
Currently, airlines provide facilities to the passengers requiring special assistance. Since those accompanying the passengers are not allowed inside the terminal - they often face a number of difficulties.
"The' Contact Zone's first of its kind service at Indian airports which is aimed at bridging this gap by facilitating the coordination between the airlines and the traveller,"a DIAL spokesperson said.
Two parking bays have been reserved for the vehicles at the Contact Zone for passengers requiring wheelchair assistance and airlines have also been asked to depute their staffs to help complete the departure formalities.
Similarly, unaccompanied minors will be assisted by them till they board the aircraft.
