Passenger accuses BA staff of unkind behaviour

Kolkata: An air-passenger scheduled to fly to London from Kolkata by a British Airways (BA) flight today, Mr M Ram (59) could not to fly to London, as the BA employees would not let is wife board the flight, although she possessed all valid documents. Mr Ram alleged that the BA employees were uncooperative.
Mr Ram and his wife are both holders of British passport. Mr Ram said his wife was “suffering from multiple chlorosis. She is also a diabetic and needed to be taken to the aircraft on a wheel chair.” Mr Ram requested the airlines staff not to separate them, owing to her illness, but the airlines officials would not let a wheel chair passenger travel with other passengers. They, however, assured Mr ram that nothing would go wrong. But, on boarding the aircraft Mr Ram was told that that he would be flown but his wife would not be.
He alleged that the airlines staff told him that he had two options ~ either to fly alone leaving his wife behind or to get off the aircraft. “I opted for the second,” Mr Ram said.
Mr Ram later accused the BA of "racial discrimination against an India-born British citizen." He would take up the issue with his local MP and local councilor on returning to the UK. According to airline sources, when BA staff informed the pilot of Mrs Ram's condition he decided that the 12 hour journey in the air would be too risky for her.
