Road shows in Australia and Asia by Indian tourism operators, plus a revamped Qantas schedule from Australian cities to India, are focusing attention on travel to the sub-continent during Visit India Year 2009, said an etravelblackboard.com report. To stimulate the market, Indian tour operators are offering attractive value-add incentives to tourists who arrive in the country between April 1 and December 31, 2009. These give tourists free holiday bonuses to go with the services they buy. These value additions include: one complimentary air ticket for travelling companion by participating airlines; a night’s free stay in participating hotels; complimentary guided sightseeing in one of the cities visited during tours and one complimentary rural eco-stay. Tourists are eligible for any or all of the above.
Pursuing a fast-paced schedule, the India Road Show visited Australia last week and Malaysia and Singapore this week. It involves an 18-member India travel trade delegation representing a wide swathe of product, from hotels to ground operators. The show also highlights the coming Commonwealth Games, to be held in New Delhi in 2010. Similar shows will visit other key markets, such as Britain, Ireland, USA, Canada, South Korea and Japan, in coming weeks. Krishna Arya, Regional Director of India Tourism, Sydney, told a media and travel industry audience at Sydney’s Four Seasons hotel last week that growth from Australia had continued steadily over the years, reaching 27 per cent at one high point.
