IATA criticises hike in airport, aeronautical charges

New Delhi: After criticising the imposition of development fees on passengers travelling from Delhi and Mumbai airports, the IATA on Friday came down heavily on the government decision to hike airport and aeronautical charges by 10% from this month.
“India continues to deal the airline industry one successive blow after another. First, approval was given for a 10% increase in charges at Mumbai and Delhi airports.... Then a development fee at Delhi and Mumbai airport was given the go-ahead,” the umbrella body of global airlines said.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said the latest “blow” was the hike in aeronautical fees and airport charges by 10% at all airports controlled by the state-owned Airports Authority of India (AAI) from this month.
