Air India slashes fare on Kanpur-Delhi route

Kanpur: Now the air fare of flying from Kanpur to Delhi would be almost equal to the fare of Rajdhani Express. The decision is sure to be music to the ears of flight passengers on Kanpur-Delhi route but on the part of Air India the massive slashing of price is a face-saving exercise.
The tickets for the economy class will be available at Rs 1,975. Earlier the same ticket was available at Rs 4,075. The decision has been taken because of regular under-occupancy of the 48 seater Air India plane, which made the operation of flights on the route a huge burden.
Initially, everything went well when the flight started operating in 2007. It maintained about 70 per cent seat occupancy with 30 to 35 seats being booked on a daily basis.However, with time it nose dived to just two or three passengers opting for the facility. At times, the flight has to take-off with empty cabins.
