Chandigarh: Airlines, railways and bus services intend to transport city’s travel scene into a new era of convenience this summer.
Four new flights will soon connect Chandigarh to Goa, Kullu, Jammu, Srinagar and Shimla. Railways will also start new trains from city.
With increased services making good business sense, travel agent Kapil Malhotra said, ‘’The number of enquiries on flight fares and schedules has gone up considerably.’’
Expecting a 25% increase in the number of air travellers, different operators said they received 10-12 enquiries every week, which was quite a number considering how few city residents opted for flying.
‘’Tourists want comfort and airlines provide that,’’ said tour operator Jitender Shangari.
A Kingfisher Airlines official said, ‘’Chandigarh is no longer just a stop-over destination. It has become an important tourist and business centre. Our clients had demanded a direct link with Jammu and Srinagar, so we launched our service. We are off to a good start and expect great business during summers.’’ MDLR Airlines, which already has a connecting flight to Kullu, is planning a direct flight to Shimla, making it possible to reach the hills without having to suffer motion sickness.
