Civic body steps up vigil at Ahmedabad airport

Ahmedabad: With the first case of swine flu in India suspected at Hyderabad, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has stepped up vigil at the city airport and deployed a team of doctors to scan passengers coming from foreign countries. The AMC has taken the measure as the state has a sizeable number of non-resident Indians (NRIs). The person who is under watch at Hyderabad for suspected case of swine flu is also an NRI.
According to municipal commissioner IP Gautam, the AMC team is keeping watch on people coming from America, Canada and other such countries where swine flu cases have been reported. He said the 24x7 scanning of people would continue till the situation became normal.
Elaborating on arrangements, Gautam told mediapersons on Tuesday that the team would ask people coming from affected areas whether they were facing any health problem. "So far, we have not come across any passenger suffering from flu-like condition. But our team is there to provide help to anyone. In some cases passengers themselves came forward to get scanned," Gautam said.
