Bangalore: A man was about to board an international flight from the city for a two-day trip. There shouldn’t have been anything out of the ordinary there. Except that he turned out to be a drug peddler, carrying 10 kg of the deadly Ketamine in his baggage.
On Thursday, the immigration department at the Bangalore International Airport has arrested one Khayam Khan for illegally transporting Ketamine drug. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused was from a poor family and was unknowingly flying with the drug as he was promised to be paid Rs 5,000 for transporting the same. The accused Khayam Khan was to board a flight to Jakarta from Bangalore on Thursday.
When he reached the immigration clearance counter, the staff got suspicious and on enquiring about the ticket he possessed, the suspicion got stronger as Khayam Khan had an eticket of flying from Bangalore on July 2 and a return ticket of July 4. As the customs sleuths interrogated him about his check- in baggage, he allegedly stated that he had a water geyser of Recold company and someone in Chennai had requested him to deliver the same to another person in Jakarta.
He said that he was promised a payment of Rs 5,000 for the job. For the sake of the money, he had not questioned about the baggage. He also said that he had been instructed to say his buggage consisted of plastic items if he was ever questioned.
As the investigating officers became more sure of some fowl play, they got his baggage from the airline authorities to get it checked. The customs officials found a Recold geyser, heavy with the Ketamine stuffed in it.The geyser’s cylinders had about 10 kg of the drug, worth about a crore in the international market.
