Mysore airport expansion likely to be delayed

Mysore: The Phase II of the Mysore Airport could be delayed. This time over compensation to the land losers.
While the district administration has suggested Rs 50 lakh per acre, farmers are seeking Rs 1.5 crore. Though the price was discussed with the land losers, the issue is yet to be resolved.
This comes amidst the Airports Authority of India (AAI) getting enquiries from air carriers about the facilities available at the under-construction workable airport that is expected to be ready by Dasara season.
Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) general secretary Badagalpura Nagendra on Thursday asked the government to start the negotiations. "They should hold discussions with us," he told reporters. What the farmers are pointing at is Punjab government's award of Rs 1.5 crore per acre for development of airport. They feel the market price of lands in Karnataka is much higher than in Punjab.
The AAI, which is developing the airport, has sought additional land to take up Phase II works that will facilitate wider bodied aircraft to operate out of Mysore.
The KRRS leaders led by K S Puttannaiah met DC P Manivannan last week and discussed the issue.
Nagendra said the government should hold discussions with the farmers and settle the rates. He said they would launch a protest in case of delay.
