AI employees threaten strike to protest salary delays

New Delhi: Air India employees are threatening to go on a month-long strike to protest delay in their paychecks. They are also demanding an overhaul of the airline.
This is the first time that the unions of Air India have come together against the Government.
In a bid to save the airline, the unions on Tuesday organised a convention along with a few political parties but soon the agenda turned into blaming the Government for the present condition of the international carrier.
The employees want the Government to integrate operations soon and pay salaries and incentives on time.
They are planning to go on a nationwide relay hunger strike from August 25 to 27 and on August 31 they will stage a walkout from offices all across the country.
“On September 2 we are meeting again to take stock of the situation and intensify at that time whatever we deem fit,” said General Secretary Air India, George Abraham.
