Kolkata: Jharkhand resident Gopal Tiwari, who tested positive for swine flu on August 2, gave rise to a controversy by fleeing his Jamshedpur home on Wednesday. He was finally detained by Kolkata airport's immigration officials on Monday. Though he has been cured and had a fit-to-fly' certificate, he was not allowed to board the Air India Express flight to Singapore because of a look-out notice issued against him.
Tiwari was carrying a medical certificate from the nodal health officer of the Jharkhand government and another medical certificate issued by his mother Puspa Tiwari, a senior physician working with Tata Steel. Airport doctors checked both documents and issued another fit-to-fly certificate.
Immigration officials then got in touch with the Jharkhand government and the latter withdrew the look-out notice in the afternoon. "They faxed us the order and we released him. Tiwari will take a flight on Tuesday," said an official.
