Dubai's budget carrier flydubai has refunded all its India passengers after the airline recently deferred plans to launch flights to India.
"We have refunded all passengers who had booked flights to India with us and we sent them all a voucher for a free flight anywhere on our network as a gesture because of the inconvenience," a flydubai spokesperson told Emirates Business.
When asked about the status of flydubai's India operations, the airline did not divulge any information.
Flydubai had planned to begin operations to India in July with flights to Lucknow, Coimbatore and Chandigarh. However, due to "operational issues", the airline had had to delay these flights, said flydubai in a recent statement. It added: "All passengers who have booked flights to India will be given a full refund, plus a voucher for a free return flight to India or anywhere on the flydubai network, which will be valid until the end of November 2009."
While the reasons for the deferral remain unclear, according to a report published yesterday in India's Economic Times, Indian civil aviation authorities took such a step amid concerns that flydubai's "cut-throat fares could hit the Middle East operations of Air India Express, the budget arm of the of the bleeding national carrier".
