Mysore: The under-construction Mysore airport is near completion and the officials are moving in to speed up the process to get necessary clearances.
Ahead of the Dasara deadline for the commercial launch of the workable airport, the officials are speeding up the process to get the clearance from the directorate-general of civil aviation (DGCA). The plan now is to ask the Airports Authority of India (AAI) top brass to move the DGCA by month-end for inspection and clearance.
Over 90% of the works are through. The AAI is getting the terminal and ATC buildings assigned to National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) in three weeks. "Since these buildings are slated to be handed over, we are approaching the AAI to move the DGCA," sources told The Times of India. Some 90% of the works are done and the NBCC has indicated that the buildings will be handed over shortly. "As such we are readying to get clearances," sources stated.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa is reviewing the progress of the airport project at a special meeting here on Wednesday while the official machinery is working out a plan to secure the clearance from the DGCA, the final frontier for commercial operations. The official plan is that the AAI can move the DGCA in next three weeks allowing the DGCA to inspect the site by month-end. The clearance is sought to be secured by mid-September when Dasara starts. "We want it to be opened for Dasara festivities," a senior official explained.
