Chandigarh: UT police is all set to start immigration training for its personnel and also Punjab police cops. The exercise is being initiated in view of the development of the Chandigarh international airport.
Initiating the plan, eight cops from Punjab police have been selected for the first batch. They will now be sent for training regarding immigration procedure to Amritsar International Airport under the leadership of inspector Kehar Singh. After this, the second lot of seven to eight cops from Chandigarh police will be sent to Amritsar. Later, a joint team of both UT and Punjab police will likely be sent to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi for further training. ‘‘The immigration team will comprise 14 members of Chandigarh and Punjab police jointly. One DSP and one inspector will be from the Chandigarh police, while eight cops of constable rank will be from Punjab police and the rest will be taken from UT, ‘‘ said UT SSP Sudhanshu Srivastava.
A senior official said that few days back during a meeting of officials from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Intelligence Bureau and Airport Authority of India, it was decided that the immigration matters will be completely dealt with by Chandigarh police with assistance from Punjab police.
