Chennai: Striking pilots of Jet Airways have started to receive moral support from their counterparts in other airlines.
The Indian Commercial Pilots Association (ICPA), the 40-year-old union of pilots belonging to erstwhile Indian Airlines, has shot off a letter of support to the National Aviators Guild (NAG) saying it appreciated the stand taken by the striking pilots of Jet Airways and that "it is very unfortunate that airline managements in our country do not appreciate the important role played by pilot unions in promoting safety."
ICPA regional secretary Captain Sabu said "unions were important because pilots are often under pressure from the operators to flout norms. This can be avoided if union is there."
The ICPA and welfare associations of pilots in other airlines are closely watching the way the striking pilots are being dealt with, the stand being taken by Jet's management and other issues.
