Comedy of errors lands fliers in wrong cities

A double goof-up by four fliers on a Dhaka-Kolkata-Bangkok Air Indian Express flight resulted in their landing at destinations thousands of miles away from where they were travelling to on Thursday.
Lokman and Nargis Akhtar, who took the flight at Dhaka to go to Bangkok, mistakenly got off at Kolkata. Two others, who boarded the same flight and were supposed to get off at Kolkata to catch a connecting flight to Delhi, remained on the aircraft and reached Bangkok.
Acknowledging the twin goof-up, Air India Express officials said the twin set of passengers had erred at the same time, leading to the mix-up.
The two Delhi-bound passengers, D Moni and E Moni were to get off at Kolkata and take a connecting flight to Delhi. However, the two passengers stayed on in the aircraft. At the same time, the two other Bangkok-bound passengers, who had boarded the flight at Dhaka, got off at Kolkata, thinking they would have to change aircraft. By the time the y reached the immigration desk and the error was detected, the plane had already taken off for Bangkok with the other duo.
"The ground security does a head count of passengers and checks it with the number on the manifest sheet. Since there was a switch, the actual number 39 was perfect. Hence, the error wasn't detected," an AI Express spokesperson said.
