Mumbai: Passengers continued to pay exorbitant fares as the deadlock between the Jet Airways management and the 500 'sick' pilots continued to the third day. Most of the domestic airlines were charging almost double the usual amount.
Rohit Shetty, 26, an advertising executive from Mumbai who often visits his family in Chennai was surprised to see the regular Rs5,000 tickets to have almost doubled. "Kingfisher and SpiceJet charged me Rs7,000 and Rs8,000 respectively for a one-way ticket," said Shetty. Finally, he took an Air India flight for Rs5300. The fares for Mumbai-Chennai have usually been in the range of Rs2784-Rs5238.
Airlines like Kingfisher, SpiceJet and GoAir where charging anywhere between Rs7,000 to Rs12,000 for Mumbai- Delhi tickets which under normal circumstances would cost around Rs5500. A ticket for Mumbai-Bangalore for Friday, now costs between Rs9,000 to Rs11,000 instead of the normal range of Rs2,100 to Rs4,100.
