Mumbai: As the strike by Air India pilots entered the fourth day on Tuesday, there was a minor increase in air fares. When Jet Airways pilots went on mass sick leave earlier this month, other airlines raised fares unreasonably from the second day itself. At that time, a Mumbai-Delhi ticket, which normally costs Rs3,000 to Rs5,000, was being sold for as much as Rs13,000 by low-cost airlines.
But the situation is remarkably different during the Air India strike. Though airlines are charging more for last-minute bookings, the rise is still a little more reasonable. For instance, a Mumbai-Hyderabad ticket on Jet Airways is available for Rs8,278 while the normal rate is Rs4,613.
In fact, when the Air India pilots went on strike on September 26, the Union civil aviation ministry decided to call a meeting of airlines to discuss fares.
