Pay up or face the outcome

Mumbai: As many as 800 pilots of the Indian Commercial Pilot Association (ICPA) gave an ultimatum to Air India (AI) on November 2, asking the airline to either to pay their allowances and resolve other issues by November 10 or else face another strike from November 24. The ICPA also said that till the salaries of AI pilots are made at par with the erstwhile Indian pilots, they are not ready for any future pay-cut discussions.
On Monday, the ICPA which had adopted a wait-and-watch approach on the non-payment of their flying allowance and productivity-linked incentives (PLI) from August till October, made it very clear that they can no longer be taken for granted.
"It is obvious from the management's conduct that all sincere efforts to develop a constructive and meaningful relationship with the management are futile in spite of our continuous co-operation," said Captain R S Otal, general secretary, ICPA, in a letter.
