Kolkata: There was a security scare of sorts after Air India officials recovered nine live cartridges of an AK-47 from the baggage of a passenger at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Monday afternoon.
The flier, however, turned out to be a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deputy commandant who claimed the ammunition was of his service rifle. Pramodh Kumar said he had carried the cartridges in his registered baggage by mistake. Though the cartridges were seized, Pramodh was allowed to board the flight. When he produced his registered baggage at the check-in counter a woman airline official the bag was taken for routine for X-Ray screening. This, in turn, revealed nine cartridges in it.
Senior security officials from the airline and CISF officers then held a brief meeting and decided to allow Pramodh to board the flight. But the ammunition was handed over to police.
