Amritsar Airport to tackle the fog problem demanded

Amritsar Vikas Manch has demanded to gear up Amritsar Airport to tackle the fog problem and to take steps to continue hub and spoke flights of Air India after 15 December 2009, restore Air India daily Amritsar-London-Toronto Flights which has been reduced to 4 days a week and appeal, restore high power committee under the leadership of Dr. Manohar Singh Gill, Installation of EDI, and Cat 3 acquisition of 500 acres for Airport and reduction of VAT on fuel to 4% and appealed to S. Navjot Singh Sidhu to launch Morcha against Air India, AAI, Punjab Government for injustice being done to Rajasansi International Airport.
In a letter to All India Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Sh. Praful Patal and Lok Sabha member S. Navjot Singh Sidhu, AVM patron Dr. Charanjit Singh Gumtala stated that during winter season there is a huge rush of passenger for Amritsar Airport but Air India stops its hub and spoke flight due to fog every year from December 15 to onward.
This flight carries passenger from Amritsar to New York, Chicago, Frankfurt, Singapore, Hong Kong etc via Delhi So the Punjabis have to go to Delhi to take these flight instead of Amritsar. They have to land Delhi instead of Amritsar on arrival to India. They have to face many problems during this journey in the severe cold. So the purpose of Amritsar Airport is not fulfilled. Punjab Government has never been keep to promote Amritsar Airport. Punjab Government has not reduced VAT on fuel to 4% as demanded by Civil Aviation Minister Mr.
Praful Patil. Similarly Airport Authority of India (AAI) decided to purchase 500 acres of land for extension of the Airport, but nothing has been done. To make Air Cargo viable EDI (Electronic Data Interface) has not been installed by custom department as decided 1 year ago.
