Call for flight status before you head for airport

New Delhi: For those of you flying out of Delhi on Wednesday morning, it would be a good idea to call the airline in advance to ensure your flight is taking off on time. With the Met department predicting the season's first dense fog on Wednesday morning, the airport's and airlines' preparedness to operate in low visibility will finally be put to test.
On Tuesday, light showers soaked several parts of the city with a total of 2.8mm rain being recorded since about 1am. The minimum temperature rose slightly to 10.8 degree Celsius, three degrees above normal, while the maximum was 23.5 degree Celsius. The morning, however, appeared extremely chilly due to the thick cloud cover and constant drizzle till about 11am. The evening was also colder than usual, thanks primarily to chilly winds that enveloped the city. Humidity levels ranged between 56% and 91% on Tuesday.
As per Met observations, the high humidity and low temperatures had formed an ideal combination for dense fog. Visibility was expected to fall to 600m after midnight and drop further to below 200m between 4.30am and 9.30am. It was expected to improve after 10.30am when it could rise to 800m and above.
