‘Frame new norms for better air safety’

Chennai: The Air Passengers Association of India (APAI) has appealed to the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to come up with new Flight Duty Timing Limitation (FDTL) guidelines to ensure better air crew and passenger safety on flights.
Founder president of APAI, D Sudhakara Reddy said here on Wednesday that the archaic FDTL rules of 1992, had made a comeback and the 2007 rules, which was based on scientific analysis to the problem of crew fatigue, had been put on cold storage, putting the safety of both the crew and passengers in danger.
APAI had sent a memorandum to the Committee on FDTL of the DGCA seeking immediate implementation of the 2007 norms besides urging the authorities to formulate a fresh set of FDTL guidelines reflecting new scientific outcomes and medical opinion on the issues of crew fatigue.
