The capital`s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport connected with two new destinations this week by adding Rome and Washington DC to its network. IGI Airport is now connected to 52 International destinations across 4 continents by 48 airlines.
On Dec 1 the Taipei— Delhi — Rome service, operated by China Airlines touched down at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Prior to the inauguration of this flight, Delhi had no direct connection to any point in Italy including Rome despite the fact that in terms of passenger traffic flows to / from Delhi, Italy is the 4th most popular destination in Europe.
During the last financial year, nearly 190,000 passengers flew between Delhi and Italy, all of them had to fly indirectly, switching flights at a Middle Eastern or another European airport thereby losing precious time and money.
