Jet mid-air emergency drill goes haywire; probe ordered

New Delhi: A drill to check a Jet Airways pilot's response to emergency ended up being a close shave for 100 passengers aboard the airline's Delhi-Mumbai flight in October.
On October 20, when the Jet flight was preparing to land a check pilot travelling in the cockpit decided to test the flight commander's response to emergencies.
The check pilot pulled out the circuit breaker and set off a series of emergencies. The autopilot tripped, flight director indications disappeared and the ground proximity warning system too turned off.
The aircraft was a mere 3,700 ft above the ground and was flying over crowed parts of Andheri in suburban Mumbai. The flight rapidly lost height at about 1,000 ft per second, but the pilot used his skills and landed the flight safely.
