New Delhi: Cash-strapped National Aviation Company of India, which runs the flag-carrier Air India, suffered a loss of about Rs 65 crore due to a five-day strike by a section of its pilots in September.
"NACIL incurred a loss of approximately Rs 65 crore due to the pilot strike in September, 2009," Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Consequent to the decision of the management to reduce the Productivity Linked Incentive and flying related allowances of executives of all streams and officers of NACIL, the executive pilots of erstwhile Indian Airlines "started reporting sick and absented themselves in a concerted manner from 26-09-2009 and that of erstwhile Air India from 28-09-2009," the minister said.
