Belgaum: MP Suresh Angadi has said that Airport Authority of India (AAI) and the state government would soon sign a memorandum of understanding for the expansion of Belgaum airport.
Speaking to reporters at Sambra airport on Thursday, he said the government had acquired 298 acres of the 370 acres required for airport expansion and is ready to hand over the same to AAI.
Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has promised water, electricity and security for the airport, which were the conditions put by the AAI to sign the MoU, the MP said, adding he will soon talk with civil aviation minister Praful Patel on resuming air services at the Belgaum airport.
The work on the modification of the existing airport terminal building, taken up at a cost of Rs 3.57 crore, is nearing completion.
