Air India union to strike for majority status

Mumbai: The Air Corporation Employee Union (Aceu) of the erstwhile Indian Airlines employees has deferred its nation-wide strike of March 19. But the Air India Cabin Crew Association (Aicca) warned the airline authorities on Wednesday that they will go on strike this month. Reason: the Aicca feels that it is the largest employees’ union in Air India (AI), and hence, the airline should not accede to demands made by the Aceu.
The Aicca issued an ultimatum to the airline on Wednesday. “We are in majority in the AI, and as per the February 25 Delhi high court order, the airline should have accorded us the majority status at the National Aviation Company of India Limited (Nacil),” Sanjay Lazar, general secretary, Aicca, said. “But in spite of the court order, the AI management continues to prop up the fallen regime of the Aceu among the cabin crew, even though it has long been reduced to a minority.”
The Aicca has written to Arvind Jadhav, chairman and managing director of the AI, asking him to give it the majority status.
