Mysore: Chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who argued that the Mysore airport works are pending, has veered from the path and taken up the matter with the civil aviation ministry to put back the project into a trajectory of growth.
While in Delhi earlier this week, state government officials updated the CM about the project. When it was conveyed to him that Phase-I of the project is completed, the CM directed senior officials to follow it up.
Yeddyurappa, who soft-launched the facility mid-September, had in February argued that the project is not complete and had dashed hopes of having a new facility's launch. Within days, there is relook by the CM. The CM got an update from the officials. He also spoke to Mysore DC Manivannan about the facility, sources stated.
The CM later approached the directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) to get the necessary clearances. Officials in New Delhi have now been directed to follow it up. "This is to open the facility for commercial flights since the airport is soft-launched during Dasara," a source explained.
The CM's move marks change in approach for the Rs 91 crore facility's utilization for travellers. For, he had passed the buck to the Union civil aviation ministry saying it is not his job to launch the project. "I'm not responsible," he had held, when asked about the delay in the commercial launch of the airport.
